Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies were somewhat of a wild card this season and have surpassed expectations during parts of the season and underperformed in others.  Lately, they are on somewhat of an odd stretch.  It involves losing eight straight games at home, while winning all six on the road.  This is an odd trend, especially figuring that home court advantage has to be some kind of “advantage”.

The key to look at in this stretch of wins and losses is the teams that they played.  All eight of the teams they played at home were above a .582 winning percentage, while all the teams they played on the road were around .386.  In essence, they have just been playing the hard teams at home and the easy ones away.

The Grizzlies have won 33 games and lost 31.  The eighth spot in the Western Conference is help by the Portland Trailblazers who have 38 wins.  There is only a five game difference between the Grizzlies and the Blazers, and if they play well enough in the next five weeks they could make it into the post-season.

In order to do this, Rudy Gay, Zach Randolph, and Marc Gasol are going to have to really take their game to the next level.  This includes both the offense and the defense.  The Grizzlies acquired a key defender in Ronnie Brewer before the trade deadline but he injured his hamstring his first week with the team, so they will have to improve their defense without him.
