NBA – New York Knicks season preview

The 2009-2010 was another disappointing season for the New York Knicks, as the team finished with a 29-53 record and failed to make the playoffs. In fact, the last time the Knicks competed in the playoffs was in 2004. Overall, the last decade has been full of failure, and hopefully a new decade could signal the beginning of a new era. The basketball odds are expected to rise in the upcoming season.

For the 2010-2011 season, the New York Knicks added several players to the roster. The most notable move was the signing of All-Star Forward/Center Amar’e Stoudemire for a five year deal that is estimated at nearly $100 million. He is going to replace the starting center position of former fan favorite David Lee, who played for the Knicks for five years and joined the Golden State Warriors. In fact, David Lee was part of a trade deal that involved Anthony Randolph, Kelenna Azubuike, and Ronny Turiaf.

Another interesting addition to the Knicks squad is Timofey Mozgov, the 7’1” Russian who will make his NBA debut. Mozgov signed a three year deal that is worth about $10 million. It seems that the Knicks management and coaching staff is very interested in strengthening the center position. Other notable new arrivals to New York include guards Roger Mason and Raymond Felton.

A somewhat controversial issue for the 2010-2011 season is the role of Danilo Galinnari. The young Italian international has been highly favored by coach Mike D’Antoni. In fact, Danilo started in 74 of 81 games last season, and that raises some eyebrows because he is so young but yet took a major responsibility on the starting lineup.

In October, the Knicks’ schedule is full of pre-season matches in Europe and the United States. The first regular season game will be against Toronto late in October.
