NBA: Miami Heat Sign Da’Sean Butler
The Miami Heat and rookie forward Da’Sean Butler have agreed to terms on a deal, the NBA club has announced.
After the summer signings of Lebron James and Chris Bosh, the Miami Heat had a lot of questions about roster depth. However, Butler marks the 18th player under contract as Miami heads in to training camp.
Butler was a star player at West Virginia. Playing in the rugged Big East, Butler helped lead West Virginia to the Big East tournament championship. The Mountaineers entered the NCAA tournament with momentum, advancing to the Final Four after beating top seeded Kentucky. Their run ended against Duke in the semifinals, a game that saw Butler suffer a costly injury.
The torn ACL took Butler from potential lottery pick to the second round, where the Miami Heat selected him with the 42nd pick. Butler is versatile enough to play both guard and forward. The Heat had him 21st on their draft board, meaning Butler could be a potential steal.
Doctors say his torn ACL should be healed in time for Butler to participate in some activities during camp. Formal workouts are scheduled to begin in late September for the new look Heat.
