NBA – LeBron James chooses Miami Heat
In an hour long ESPN special entitled “The Decision,” LeBron James announced he would be leaving his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers for South Beach Florida to play with the Miami Heat. There he would join NBA betting stars, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, other big name free agents this offseason.
In one of the biggest frenzies in recent history, James told host Jim Gray that he wrestled with this decision for weeks, before making up his mind on Thursday morning. He thought that this was the best place to be able to win championships. After talking to his mother and inner circle, Miami was deemed the team of choice.
Fan reaction was noticeably mixed of course. Patrons at a Miami nightspot were shown celebrating, jubilant over the fact that they now had 3 big names to build a team around. In Cleveland, Ohio, a fan was shown burning the number 23 Cavaliers jersey in effigy.
Around the country commentators all had a spin on the announcement, with reaction ranging from selfish to interesting. Perhaps the most interesting response came from Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert who called James “a quitter” and the former King would not win a championship before his Cavaliers did.
This 2 year saga has finally concluded with only one clear winner – LeBron James. It remains to be seen if the Miami Heat have enough money left to finish building this team.
