NBA Free Agency: LeBron Leaving Some Teams out in the Cold

The LeBron James sweepstakes has left some big teams out in the cold with a lot of salary cap space to fill. The New York Knicks have yet to give up on acquiring James, meeting with him July 4th after they signed Amare Stoudemire for 105 million dollars.

Five teams have jettisoned most of their players in order to make room under their salary cap so the can sign the biggest three free agents, James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. Miami will be in bad shape if they only sign Wade as expected while Chicago is in a similar situation if they cannot convince Wade to come home to Chicago and bring Bosh with him.

July 1st was when free agents were allowed to seek out offers and so far the NBA free agency market has focused on the signing of LeBron James. James on the other hand appears to waiting to see where other players sign and his hometown team of Cleveland is hoping after he flirts with the two teams in New York, the Miami Heat and Chicago, that he will elect to stay home with Cleveland.

Although Wade has flirted with Chicago, he won’t go by himself, most likely he returning to sign with Miami. The most likely scenario for Chris Bosh is that he will sign with Cleveland (although he doesn’t like the city) and once he does, LeBron James will soon follow suit and return to Cleveland. In the end the free agency period will end with most teams not making many moves.
