NBA Basketball – 2009-2010 MVP Award Preview

At this point in the 2009-2010 NBA season, it should come as no surprise that the “King” is favored to win his second straight MVP award. With his typical game of 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists for the best team in the NBA, LeBron James is miles ahead of the competition.

However, there is always the chance that LeBron could break his leg tomorrow or decide he has accomplished enough in his basketball career and try his luck at baseball.

If that happened, the voters would be forced to look for a new MVP. Their likely next selection would be Kobe Bryant; however, this would be a mistake. Kobe has been off from three-point range this season, which has diminished his offensive efficiency. He is still one of the best players in the game, but not the most valuable player of this season.

The voters should look to 21-year-old Kevin Durant, who has been the best player on a team that has turned last season’s dismal 23-59 record into a strong 36-24 year. He is in a virtual tie with LeBron for the scoring title and contributes 7 or 8 rebounds per game as well. If the voters favor a more defensive-minded guy, then they cannot go wrong with Dwight Howard.

He is leading the league in rebounding and blocks for the second straight year. Along with Dirk Nowitzki and Carmelo Anthony, these are the only players with any chance of overcoming King James of the Cleveland Cavaliers. So look for those or other ways to bet on basketball.
